JOB TITLE:     AIG Specialist Support Coordinator (Interim)

 

REPORTS TO:    Director of Instruction & Federal Programs

 

SALARY:     Based on State and Local Salary Schedule

 

STATUS:             10 months

 

SUMMARY:  The job AIG Specialist Support Coordinator  is established to perform a variety of professional work to address the academic, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of all gifted learners.  The AIG Coordinator holds an AIG license and is a support to teachers at the school level. The AIG Coordinator oversees the day to day operations of the AIG Program and Plan. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

 

• Advocates for gifted students and gifted education. 
• Helps to develop, plan, monitor and evaluate the District AIG plans and programs with clear and comprehensive Student Identification Procedures for gifted screening, referrals and identification. 
• Supports the development and implementation of differentiated curriculum and DEP implementation across all grade levels and grade spans (Elementary, Middle and High School)
• Oversees processes for Differentiated Education Plans (DEP) and annual reviews.
• Provides curricular resources to appropriately challenge and serve gifted learners and students with gifted potential
• Creates positive relationships with teachers and administrators.
• Supports School principals, teachers,and instructional coaches to determine school needs in regards to the AIG program area.
• Supports School AIG committees with planning including AIG referral, screening and identification procedures.
• Provides support to teachers in their classrooms through planning, coaching and modeling rigorous lessons. 
• Collaborates with the Needs Determination Team during annual/parent guardian meetings with program policies and throughout plan implementation
• Offers and participates in district professional development related to academic, intellectual, and social emotional needs of gifted learners. 
• Teaches and provides support for the Primary Education Thinking Skills Curriculum and critical thinking lessons. 
• Assists with the coordination of projects that support the AIG program and student population. 
• Supports the implementation of different enrichment opportunities across the district for both In -School  and After-School Enrichment clubs and events. 
• Meets with teachers during grade level planning to assist with differentiation strategies
• Provides CogAT preparation for second grade students and data follow up with administrators. 
• Reviews data to support the placement of students in the AIG program. 
• Serves on the District MTSS team to support implementation. 
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Master’s degree in Education preferred
• Valid North Carolina Teaching License
• NC Licensure in Gifted Education
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience required
• Record of positive classroom experiences
• Knowledge of North Carolina Standard Course of Study
• Ability to disaggregate, interpret, and analyze assessment data
• Success working collaboratively with colleagues
• Communicates effectively with administrators, principals, teachers, and parents in both orally and in writing

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, , and document cameras, etc
• Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
• Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, statements, etc.
• Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, statements, etc. using prescribed formats
• Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form
• Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak, and listen. Occasional physical activities include using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reaching with hands and arms; and performing movements such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 15 pounds, and may be required to lift heavier items as needed.
