JOB TITLE:     Behavior Support Liaison (Behavior Specialist)

 

REPORTS TO:    Director of Exceptional Children

 

SALARY:     Based on State and Local Salary Schedule

 

STATUS:             10 months

 

SUMMARY:  The job of  Behavior Specialist was established to create a positive, disciplined learning environment while acting as a member of the school’s discipline team and data working team. Employee will assist teachers and administrators to achieve school and district goals in organization climate by providing coaching and consulting services related to discipline strategies. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

 

  • Provides functional behavioral assessments when appropriate
  • Works with teachers to assess and improve student behavior
  • Develops and facilitate the implementation of functional behavior plans
  • Facilitates the development of behavior modification plans
  • Provides home/school behavior intervention support models
  • Provides staff development focusing on students with difficult behaviors and related topics
  • Consults with IEP teams as requested
  • Completes random moment in time studies as required by MAC program guidelines
  • Supports paraprofessionals assigned to students with difficult behaviors
  • Performs other related work as required

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Degree in education and licensure as a teacher by the NC DPI

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

 

  • Ability to perform general clerical duties
  • Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment
  • Ability to motivate students
  • Ability to constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when student is participating in an inclusive activity
  • Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom
  • Ability to operate common office machines
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitates by work assignments
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to maintain basic files and records 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or more at times.
