JOB TITLE: Family and Community Coordinator - Middle School (2024-25 School Year)
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY: Hourly (Pay Grade 57)
STATUS: 10 months
SUMMARY: The Parent and Community Coordinator is responsible for facilitating communication, encouraging parent/guardian and community engagement, and providing resources to families and the community to support student success. This role involves working closely with school staff, parents/guardians, and local organizations to create a supportive and inclusive environment for all students.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Family Engagement
- Develop and implement strategies to increase family involvement in school activities and student learning
- Organize and facilitate family workshops, meetings, and events to educate and empower parents on various topics, including student academic progress, social-emotional development and community resources; including but not limited to Title I Parent Meetings.
- Serve as a point of contact for parents and guardians, providing information and support regarding school policies, programs and services.
- Engage parents and families in the development and understanding of the Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy, home/school compacts, and the School Improvement Plan.
Community Outreach
- Establish and maintain partnerships with local businesses, community organizations and social services to provide resources and support for students and families.
- Coordinate community events and programs that enhance the school’s relationship with the community.
- Represent the school at community meetings and events to promote the school’s mission and initiatives.
Communication
- Serve as the liaison between the school and families, ensuring clear and effective communication about school activities, policies and student progress.
- Assist with translation and interpretation services for non-English speaking families, as needed.
- Maintain regular contact with families through newsletter, social media, phone calls, and home visits, etc.
- Work with all school personnel to promote an understanding of the value of parent/school partnerships and assist them with building effective partnerships with families.
Student Support
- Collaborate with school counselors, social workers, and teachers to identify and support students facing challenges at home or in the community.
- Assist in the development and implementation of intervention plans for students in need of additional support.
- Provide referrals to external services for families requiring additional assistance.
Data and Reporting
- Collect and analyze data to identify trends, needs, and areas for improvement.
- Prepare reports for school administration on the effectiveness of family and community outreach programs.
Perform other additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Associate Degree or higher, preferred.
- Experience effectively promoting teamwork in a successful, collaborative, professional environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within the school and community with various and diverse stakeholder groups
- Ability to use computer-driven word processing, office machines, file maintenance programs and spreadsheets
- Ability to collect and analyze different types of statistical data (i.e. academic performance, attendance, discipline, etc.)
- General understanding of public school academic curriculum and assessments
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or more at times.
