JOB TITLE: Instructional Coach - Middle School (2024-25 School Year)
REPORTS TO: Principal
SALARY: Certified Teacher Pay Scale, Based on State and Local Salary Schedule
STATUS: 10 months
SUMMARY:
The job of Instructional Coach - Middle School was established to support teaching and learning that results in increased student achievement by a highly qualified teacher who has strong knowledge of secondary pedagogy, researched based strategies, and curriculum standards. The Instructional Coach supports the teachers, principal, and Director of Secondary Curriculum in all instructional initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
- Assists teachers with improving techniques for instruction and improving overall student achievement
- Brings evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with teachers and other school leaders
- Ensures teachers and principals are familiar with any changes to the NC Curriculum; designs curriculum
- Observes classrooms and provides feedback related to instructional practices
- Assists with the development of district and school wide assessment tools
- Supports the principal’s efforts in locating, analyzing and selecting instructional materials, software, hardware, and other resources
- Assists in the analysis and management of student data including state scores, grades, attendance, discipline, and benchmark data.
- Assists teachers in the effective use and integration of technology and online resources in support of high student achievement.
- Models effective instructional strategies through demonstration lessons, mini lessons, video-taped lessons, staff development, etc
- Assists with lesson planning and delivery to ensure the use of differentiation, best practices, pacing, and curricular alignment
- Attends system-wide training sessions and conducts local training sessions for school staff on proper conditions, practices, and procedures
- Provides assistance and leadership in the planning and implementing of assessment matters,, including but not limited to state testing, standardized testing and local benchmark assessments
- Performs other duties as required and as assigned by the Principal
MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program
- NC Teaching license, or qualifications and willingness to obtain a NC teaching license
- Proven record of excellence as a classroom teacher with predictive characteristics of an outstanding Instructional Coach
- Teacher leadership experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to implement and interpret policy, procedures, and data
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards
- Experience in promoting a successful collaborative educational environment
- Knowledge of state and local testing requirements
- Skill in preparing school staff for statewide testing programs
- Effective use and integration of technology and online resources
- Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and statistics and develop reports from that information
- Ability to use Computer-driven word processing, office machines, file maintenance programs and spreadsheets
- Ability to collect and analyze statistical data
- Ability to plan and evaluate strategies for improving instruction
- Knowledge of effective staff development models that lead to increased student achievement
- Ability to work well with peers
- Highly developed presentation skills
- Demonstrated leadership skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or more at times.
