JOB TITLE:     Teacher – Preschool Special Needs


REPORTS TO:    Principal and/or designee


SALARY:     Based on State and Local Salary Schedule


STATUS:             10 months 

 

SUMMARY:  The job Teacher – Preschool Special Needs was established to plan, organize
and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and
encourages students with disabilities to develop and fulfill their developmental potential.
Required to follow all Board policies and procedures and to comply with instructions and/or
directives from his/her supervisor(s).  


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:


? Plan a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the needs, interests and
abilities of students
? On a regular and consistent basis, meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations
and at the times designated
? Create a classroom environment that provides for student with disabilities involvement in
the learning process and enable each student to achieve academic/functional goals
? Prepare for daily instruction, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of
immediate supervisor
? Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, etc. in order to connect these
lessons to IEP goals
? Plan for and utilize instructional methods, resources and evaluation techniques that
motivate and enable each student to achieve learning objectives
? Take all necessary and permitted safety precautions to protect students, equipment,
materials and facilities
? Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, CCS policy, NCDPI and
administrative regulations
? Make provisions for being available to parents for education-related purposes outside
the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms

? Establish relationships with colleagues, students, parent and community that reflect
recognition and respect of every individual
? Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistants and volunteers
? Appraise your own effectiveness and demonstrate successful application of skills and
information acquired to increase effectiveness
? Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
? Participate in school management and share responsibilities for the total school program
? Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required
? Administer and supervise standardized test administrations in accordance with all
applicable Code of Ethics, Testing Code of Ethics, NCDPI, and/or national standards
and regulations
? Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:


? Minimum Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program for early childhood
development or applicable level(s)in subject area
? NC Teaching license or have qualifications to obtain a NC teaching license   

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


? Skilled in assessment and disaggregating data for teaching and learning
? Ability to meet the needs of all learners
? Ability to plan, coordinates, and continuously improve instruction
? Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decision
based on the facts
? Ability to develop and compile IEP records and reports
? Must be able to use a variety of technology devices such as computers, copiers,
calculators, etc.
? Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or
composite characteristics of data, people, or things
? Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, includes
receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from administrators
? Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, list, etc.
? Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc.
using prescribed format
? Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written
instruction
? Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit,
talk and listen.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel:
reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must
occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or more at times. The employee is expected to
address student hygienic needs.
